What Is Graphic Literacy?
Graphic literacy is the ability to read and understand visual messages. In this
module, you will have the opportunity to learn about many of the different
types of graphics used on the 2002 Series GED Tests. In order to prepare
students for the test, teaching strategies must incorporate real-life readings
and graphics. Graphics used on the GED Tests include:
- Tables
- Bar graphs
- Line graphs
- Circle graphs
- Drawings
- Diagrams
|
- Flow charts
- Timelines
- Editorial cartoons
- Maps
- Photographs
- Posters
|
Think for a few moments about how you can incorporate these different types of
graphics into your own classroom. Write some of your ideas in the text box
below. You may wish to print your list of ideas. As you continue through this
web-based training, you can continue to add to your list of ideas about how to
implement graphic skills training in the classroom.
Now, lets take a look at how different types of graphics are used on the GED
Tests.
