The GED Science Test: Just the Facts

The GED Science Test measures the student’s ability to use scientific information to make decisions and solve problems. The test focuses on the relevance of science in everyday life. The test has 50 multiple-choice questions and is 80 minutes long. The Science Test includes an emphasis on health and the environment.

The GED Science Test includes the following content areas:

  • Physical Science (physics and chemistry)—35%
  • Life Science—45%
  • Earth and Space Science—20%

The Science Test includes items based on

  • Prose material, which varies in length from a single question stem to more complex passages
  • Graphic-based material, such as graphs, charts, tables, diagrams, and photographs
  • Combinations of prose and graphic-based material
