Making the Connection

Many GED programs teach each GED content area as a discrete subject. Students study Language Arts Writing and then Language Arts Reading or Social Studies and so on.

This web-based professional development module will focus on the teaching of critical thinking skills across the content areas. Whether working in Reading, Science, or Social Studies, students need the same critical thinking skills of comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.

If students can master higher-order thinking skills, they can use those skills in any subject area as well as in everyday situations. As you work with your students, consider implementing critical thinking strategies as the basis for your instructional program.
