The paper carrier isn’t the only person who works to bring you the newspaper. On this field trip, KET introduces you to the many people who make the Lexington Herald-Leader. You’ll find the answers to these questions on our trip:

  • What makes a front-page story?
  • How do you get started in the newspaper business?
  • What kinds of jobs and skills are needed in the newspaper industry?

You’ll learn from a reporter, a sports writer, a photographer, and an editor about techniques in creating a newspaper and get a close-up look at the business of running a newspaper as we explore advertising and sales and see the technology involved. From the delivery person to the graphic artist to the publisher, a variety of professionals also offer advice on developing career skills.

This program was first broadcast on October 22, 1996.
