The animals and staff of the Louisville Zoological Gardens, Kentuckys official state zoo, host a very special tour for teachers and students. The trip begins with a quick montage featuring more than 25 of the 1,200 animals that live at the zoo. Then youll go behind the scenes with animal keepers, trainers, veterinarians, and other zoo staff members, see some exciting new ventures, and learn how the Louisville Zoo promotes a better bond between people and the planet.
- See how elephants, seals, tapirs, and tigers are trained to make the care of the animals easier for both people and animals.
- Learn how a captive-breeding program has brought the black-footed ferret back from near extinction.
- See a Cuban crocodile and find out how to prepare for field work in Cuban swamps.
- Watch a zoo veterinarian work with exotic animals and hear about his work.
- Learn how an innovative rotation system allows animals to move between different habitats.
This field trip premiered on November 10, 1998.
