Math Basics was designed for adults who have difficulty with fundamental math. Using an innovative approach based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards, the series helps adult learners develop “number sense” and the confidence they need to succeed at mathematics and to prepare for GED study. It is also appropriate for general and remedial math classes at the middle and high school levels.
This KET-produced series helps students understand the “big ideas” in math. It emphasizes estimation, use of the calculator, and real-life methods for solving real-life problems. The series is designed to meet the five general goals of the NCTM standards: that students
- learn to value mathematics,
- become confident in their ability to do mathematics,
- become mathematical problem solvers,
- learn to communicate effectively, and
- learn to reason mathematically.
