In this video produced by KET’s Dave Shuffett and the KYANA Geological Society, students will learn about earth science concepts as they relate to Kentucky’s own rich geological history. They will also discover some of the fun and educational benefits of joining a rock club.

Led by a student host, viewers get to tag along on a rock hunt where they learn from members of the geological society about the rock cycle, fossils, uses of rocks and minerals, and other related topics. Students will see spectacular examples of mineral and fossil specimens, including the unique and beautiful Kentucky agate.

KET's Dave Shuffett, a student co-host, and members of the Kentuckiana Geological Society explore Kentucky rock formations in search of fossils, minerals, and interesting rock specimens. Along the way, they also introduce a variety of earth science topics, including the cycle of rock formation and erosion; how fossils are created; and the uses people make of various minerals, including the brilliantly colored Kentucky agate. 14 minutes
