The Universe & I series presents significant earth/space science content; but it also shows the active side of science, using science content as a means to develop constructive attitudes, thinking skills, and basic science concepts.

Although the series design suggests a unit approach, there is no required sequence for viewing; each program, with accompanying teacher and student material, is designed to stand alone. Dramatic and documentary styles are used, incorporating fantasy, mystery, and humor where appropriate in program treatments. Recognizable professionals, such as Leonard Nimoy, Patrick O'Neal, and Martin Milner, further attract student attention. Program topics touch upon the areas that most lend themselves to the video medium, presenting concepts in ways which would be difficult to approach in other ways.

Many of the Universe & I programs are open-ended, compelling students to question and learn more. And the variety of program styles is sure to awaken the spirit of scientific inquiry in most middle school students.

Universe & I is a KET production.
