In this 30-minute video from Justice Learning, Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Stephen Breyer talk about the U.S. Constitution with high school students at the Supreme Court. While answering questions from the students, they discuss such topics as why we have and need a constitution, what federalism is, how implicit and explicit rights are defined, and how separation of powers ensures that no one branch of government obtains too much power.

Justice Learning is a collaboration among National Public Radio, the New York Times Learning Network, and other partners. Conversations with Supreme Court Justices and another Justice Learning production, Justice Talking: Free Speech in the Digital Age, were developed to help schools meet the requirement of creating lessons for the annual Constitution Day observance in September.
