These two programs from the Rivers of North America series provide unique perspectives on the role of the Ohio and the Lower Mississippi rivers in the development and settlement of their respective regions and of the United States in general.

101. The Ohio River
Explores how the Ohio has shaped and continues to shape the North American landscape. Topics include dams, watersheds, steamboats, fossil fuels, tributaries, river confluences, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the Underground Railroad, the Ice Age, the French and Indian War, and the Ohio and Erie canals. 25 minutes

102. The Lower Mississippi River
ravels down the Mississippi Lower, which begins at the confluence of the Ohio River at Cairo, Illinois and ends at New Orleans. Topics covered include headwaters, floodplains, sediment, fossils, the Louisiana Purchase, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Five Civilized Tribes, the Mound Builders, and Cajun culture. 25 minutes
