Duties/Schedules

The engineering interns will divide their time among three areas and perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Master Control—This area is the heart of any television broadcast facility. It is the origination point for all programming, whether it be from satellite or videotape. KET is the only broadcast facility in the Central Kentucky area with multi-channel capability. Interns will assist in the day-to-day Master Control operation and become familiar with broadcast logs, videotape machines and other related equipment, signal monitoring devices, and multi-channel computerized automation. The daily schedule can be very flexible, ranging from 5:30 am to 12:30 am.
  • Tape Production—Here interns will gain experience related to tape production, learn the basic operation of broadcast VTRs, and be introduced to signal monitoring and basic insert and assemble editing. The schedule in this area may be any time between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
  • Maintenance Shop—This area includes broadcast maintenance, video engineering, and equipment installation. Interns will learn a variety of basic skills, including camera shading and timing and reading and understanding cable drawings and rack layouts for related equipment. Schedules range between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
