Position Details/Eligibility

These unpaid internships are available year-round. Up to six interns are needed each semester. Junior-, senior-, and graduate-level students attending any Kentucky college or university and Kentucky residents attending a college or university out of state may apply.

10 hours per week (approximately 150 hours per semester) are required, although special arrangements may be made when school requirements differ.

Duties

Interns will work on a variety of administrative tasks covering all aspects of KET’s fund-raising initiatives. While reporting to the director for mid-level giving, interns will have the chance to spend time with each of the employees of the Commonwealth Fund. Activities interns will participate in may include the following:

  • the planning and organization of direct mail campaigns
  • special events planning
  • web site development
  • premium distribution
  • budget planning and strategizing
  • information systems planning
  • donor relations
  • database administration

Interns will not be required to do any direct fund-raising, either by mail or through phone solicitation.

This internship is an opportunity to learn what it is like to run a major fund-raising department for a large statewide public television network. The emphasis will be on understanding efficient fund-raising practices and procedures and the management of a nonprofit organization.
