David Peterson and 1946

1946 (the year) saw the birth of bluegrass, a new musical genre that generated as much excitement as the creation of rock ’n’ roll would just a few years later. Today, 1946 (the band) carries that same musical thrill forward into a new century.

Led by singer Dave Peterson, 1946 brings the emotional impact and virtuosity of traditional bluegrass to audiences wherever it performs. The band was formed in 1999 and includes Shayne Bartley (mandolin), Matthew Arnold (fiddle), Elmer Burchett Jr. (banjo), and Preston Rumbaugh (bass).

Peterson and 1946 have released two albums, David Peterson & 1946 (2001) and Howling Blue Winds (2003).
