Josh Williams and High Gear

Josh Williams plays mandolin and fiddle and sings lead, baritone, bass, and tenor vocals. He started on the banjo at the age of 9, and by age 12 he had won the Kentucky State Banjo Championship, the beginners’ Kentucky State Mandolin Championship, and national junior championships on guitar and dobro.

Between 1990 and 1999, Josh appeared on national television via Nickelodeon’s Nick News, performed at Opryland, recorded with the Young Acoustic All-Stars, appeared on TNN’s Crook & Chase show, and won the Tennessee State Band Championship with the band Hyperdrive.

Josh recorded several albums while with High Gear, including Come to That River (1997). In 1998, he joined Special Consensus as lead vocalist and mandolin player.
