The Osborne Brothers, one of the world’s elite bluegrass bands—and members of the Grand Ole Opry since 1964—bring their unique sound to this edition of Jubilee. The hour-long program draws from the band’s performances at two 1997 Kentucky bluegrass festivals: the Red Mule festival in Berea and the Carter County Shrine Club festival in Olive Hill.

The six-member group, inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Honor in 1994, includes Sonny Osborne on banjo, brother Bobby on mandolin, Terry Eldredge on guitar, Terry Smith on bass, David Crow on fiddle, and Gene Wooten on resophonic guitar (dobro). The band has had two albums on Pinecastle Records’ best-sellers list: When the Roses Bloom in Dixieland and The Osborne Brothers—Class of ’96. Meanwhile, Bobby and Sonny’s anthem “Rocky Top” ranks as the most popular bluegrass song ever recorded.

If you’re a bluegrass fan, you’re sure to find some favorites among the songs performed on this program, including “Muddy Bottom,” “I’ll Be All Right Tomorrow,” “Under the Shade of the Old Oak Tree,” “Windy City,” “Let’s Be Sweethearts Again,” and “Waltz Across Texas.” The Osbornes also treat the audience to such standards as “Old Roy” and “Nobody’s Darling Mine” before closing their performance with “Ruby.” One of the band’s most famous numbers, it showcases Bobby Osborne’s easily recognizable tenor voice.
