1997 International Bluegrass Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year Claire Lynch is one of bluegrass music’s biggest stars. After more than 20 years in the business, multiple top-selling albums, numerous industry awards, and increasing success as a songwriter, the Alabama native has arrived—resoundingly—on the bluegrass A-list.

Lynch and the talented Front Porch String Band share their recipe for bluegrass success on this episode of Jubilee, performing tracks from their Grammy Award-nominated albums Moonlighter (1995) and Silver and Gold (1997) as well as a more recent release, Love Light, in a concert taped at the 2000 Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, KY.

As it turned out, the performance was one of fans’ last chances to see Lynch and the band perform together. In December 2000, the group performed its last live show as an ensemble. Lynch and founding mandolinist Larry Lynch are pursuing solo careers, while multiple IBMA Award-winning bassist Missy Raines and guitarist Jim Hurst, who also have appeared together on Jubilee, are gaining recognition as one of bluegrass’ best emerging duos. Claire Lynch also sang backup for two recent bluegrass releases by Dolly Parton, The Grass Is Blue and Little Sparrow, and for Parton’s subsequent tours.

Though they may have parted ways, it’s clear that Claire and the other members of Front Porch will be a central part of the bluegrass scene for some time to come.
