When fans, critics, or musicians talk about traditional bluegrass music, few names garner more respect and admiration than that of Dr. Ralph Stanley. For more than 50 years—first with his brother Carter, then with his band, the Clinch Mountain Boys, after Carter’s death in 1966—Stanley has epitomized old-time mountain bluegrass like no other.

Recipient of a National Heritage Fellowship, an honorary doctorate degree, and the 2000 Living Legend Award from the Library of Congress for “contributions to American social and cultural heritage,” Stanley has been lauded for his unique sound and dedication to preserving traditional bluegrass musicianship.

Joining Stanley and his group on this program is bluegrass band Southern Harvest. The performances were taped in the summer of 2000 at the Osborne Brothers Hometown Festival in Hyden, KY.
