A ministers son, Eddie Cotton Jr. grew up singing gospel music at church and playing the music of blues legends like B.B. King at home. He brings his unique blend of musical influences to all of his performances, including this Jubilee performance taped at the W.C. Handy Blues Festival in Henderson, KY.
Although a relative newcomer to the blues scene, Cotton is no musical neophyte. He studied music theory at Jackson State University in his hometown of Jackson, MS and went on to serve as minister of music at his fathers church. This seemingly unlikely juxtaposition of musical interests is precisely what engages Cottons audiences, who appreciate his combination of rock, funk, gospel, and blues.
Whether hes punctuating old favorites with his own inflections or crooning a Cotton original with stunning energy, audiences are sure to take notice of this blues artist who demonstrates deep respect and appreciation for his craft.
