The Lonesome River Band brings its style of traditional bluegrass infused with a rock ’n’ roll edge to the Jubilee stage in a performance taped at the 2003 Kentucky Lake Bluegrass Festival.

Band leader Sammy Shelor, a Virginia native and ace banjo picker, inspires his bandmates to make music that appeals to both young and old fans. His outgoing personality, impressive fretwork, and catchy licks have helped attract a new generation of fans to bluegrass music.

The Lonesome River Band was launched into the top ranks of bluegrass music in 1992 when Carrying the Tradition was named Album of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA).

In addition to Shelor on banjo and vocals, the band includes Brandon Rickman on guitar and vocals, Jeff Parker on mandolin and vocals, Irl Hees on bass and vocals, and Mike Hartgrove on fiddle.
