This edition of Jubilee offers two perspectives on bluegrass from the 2004 J.D. Crowe and the New South Festival.

First, banjo picker Wayne Fields takes the stage with his family band, Driftwood, whose members range in age from 12 to 60. Tight harmonies and hot picking characterize their bluegrass sound, which is designed to appeal to a younger generation.

They’re followed by a set of traditional and gospel bluegrass numbers from BlueDawg. This band combines banjo, dobro, mandolin, and acoustic guitar to create (in its own words) “in-your-face, straight-from-the-heart bluegrass” with a hard-driving rhythm.
