This edition of Jubilee showcases the electric blues of Carl Weathersby, a soulful, crooning performer highly skilled in the scorching Chicago style, with his band, Vital Support.

In his live performances, Weathersby mixes elements of classic blues, funk, and R&B with soulful vocals and exciting guitar riffs to give listeners an electrifying experience. He and his bandmates often roam off-stage and into the crowd with their cordless guitars, generating even more energy throughout the audience.

Born in 1953 in Jackson, MS, Weathersby moved with his family to Chicago when he was 8 years old. He grew up immersed in the blues and has many links to celebrated blues, R&B, and Motown artists, including a childhood association with blues legend Albert King, who influenced young Carl’s playing style. Weathersby toured extensively in the 1980s and ’90s with Albert King and as a member of Billy Branch’s band, the Sons of Blues.

Weathersby has been playing and recording solo since 1996. Each of his first four albums received nominations for numerous awards, including the W.C. Handy Award for Contemporary Blues Artist of the Year in 1999.
