Valerie Smith’s musical career began when she was a small child singing Baptist hymns in church. Now she’s a recipient of multiple International Bluegrass Music Association awards, plus a Grammy, and the founder of bluegrass band Liberty Pike.

Formerly an elementary school music teacher, Smith has entertained music lovers in New York, London, Berlin, Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and hundreds of other venues throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe. She has appeared everywhere from the Grand Ol’ Opry to XM Satellite Radio.

For this Jubilee performance, the Liberty Pike lineup backing her up includes songwriter Becky Buller on vocals, fiddle, clawhammer banjo, and guitar; Casey Grimes on bass and vocals; and Jonathan Maness on guitar and mandolin. Some of the tunes featured can be found on the band’s September 2006 CD, Wash Away Your Troubles.
