This edition of Jubilee features two groups with a vision to the future of bluegrass: the bluegrass and rock ‘n’ roll inspired Fire the Saddle, and “new grass” specialists Down on 5th.

The four friends that make up Fire the Saddle have been crafting and crooning in their Louisville hometown since 2001, developing a loyal following around their unique, folk rock influenced approach to traditional, acoustic-based American music. With influences ranging from the Band and John Hartford to Freakwater and Neil Young, the group enjoys creating and performing songs that remain “as soft and sweet as they are rockin’ and rebellious.”

Touting their style as “Not your father’s bluegrass,” the veteran group of bluegrass musicians that make up Down on Fifth don’t hesitate to disclose their aim: creating progressive bluegrass music, utilizing traditional elements of the form and pushing forward with a unique sound all their own.

Sure to please audiences that appreciate innovative approaches to classic forms, the Jubilee performances of Fire the Saddle and Down on 5th reveal fresh directions in the well worn paths of traditional American music.
