Dread Clampitt formed in 2002 with Kyle Ogle (guitar, vocals) and Balder Saunders (mandolin, vocals) making music on the front porch of their Grayton Beach, FL trailer.
The group forged its reputation and gained a loyal following at a jumpiní little joint off of Hwy 30-A called the Red Bar. The group's homemade sound, a fusion of bluegrass, rock & roll, blues, jazz and Louisiana Bayou funk (with three-part harmonies and pinch of Southern humor thrown in for good measure) drew an eclectic crowd. Hippies and rednecks, politicians and beach bums, they all rubbed elbows and bobbed heads together.
Of course, word began to spread, and today, rounded out by Kenny Oliverio and John Reinlie, Dread Clampitt is making waves across the bluegrass world. But Red Bar is still a favored venue for good times performances.
