Junior Sisk, a native of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, helped Lonesome River Band rise to stardom as a songwriter in the early 1990s. In 1998, Sisk formed Ramblers Choice, and since then, he has received several bluegrass music awards, including IBMA song of the year and album of the year trophies awards in 2012.

Blue Highway is a six-time IBMA award recipient, and band member Rob Ickes has received the IBMA dobro player of the year award 13 times since 1996. Together since the late 1990s, the band has produced 10 albums and is considered one of the most influential groups in contemporary bluegrass.
