Melvin Goins and Windy Mountain
He has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, is the only bluegrass performer ever to appear on the cover of Smithsonian magazine, and is known among fans of bluegrass as one of the genres most influential and established musicians. But Melvin Goins seems almost unaware of such accomplishments as he keeps his performance rolling with purebred bluegrass tunes interspersed with his unique sense of homespun humor. Goins and his band, Windy Mountain, bring a time-tested sound to Jubilee.
Hailing from Bluefield, WV, Goins has been performing bluegrass music for more than 50 years. After playing with the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers and then with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, he formed the Goins Brothers band with his brother Ray. Melvin reestablished the band as Melvin Goins and Windy Mountain in 1999 after Rays retirement in 1997.
