Formed in 1986, Eastbound included lead guitarist Ronnie Merrill of Ohio and three Kentuckians: husband-and-wife musicians Rob and Dedria Morgan of Booneville and singer Kelly Caldwell of Somerset.
While performing primarily gospel, Eastbound also played instrumentals and bluegrass at secular appearances and recorded three albums: Ive Got a Mansion Waiting for Me (1989), When Time Is Gone (1993), and Roads of Faith (2000). The band was the featured act on many shows and opened others for such legends as the Osborne Brothers, Ralph Stanley, J.D. Crowe, Carl Story, Alison Krauss, Doyle Lawson, the Lewis Family, and even the great Bill Monroe.
Since their Jubilee performance, the members of Eastbound have regrouped and become the bluegrass gospel band Higher Vision.
