Skeeter Brandon and Highway 61 (#321)

Skeeter Brandon and Highway 61 “tear the joint up” with original and classic blues.

Skeeter Brandon’s voice has been described as a “soulful roar, which is husky, fierce, menacing, and sweet as honey,” and Highway 61 boasts the instrumental firepower to match. The lineup includes some of the Carolinas’ finest blues/R&B musicians: guitarist Max Drake; bassist Chris Grant, an original member of the band; and Russ Wilson, considered by many to be the best swing drummer in the region.

Mixing their unique original material with classics by such legendary artists as B.B. King, Otis Redding, Albert King, and Ray Charles, Skeeter Brandon and Highway 61 demonstrate that the blues is not only alive and kicking, but also rockin’ and rollin’. Their performance was taped at the 1999 W.C. Handy Blues Festival in Henderson, KY.
