Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers (#323)
A blues guitar master cranks it up.
Jimmy Thackery has been known in guitar circles since the mid-1970s, when he broke out with his blues band the Nighthawks. Through many lineup changes and sideman gigs since then, Thackery has become a master of the frets. With his three-piece band, the Drivers, he is once again commanding the stage with his intense six-string abilities.
Jubilee presents Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers in a performance taped at the Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, KY. They play a brand of blues that is both hard-driving and deeply felt. Inspired by such guitarists as Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Rush, and Muddy Waters, Thackery is establishing himself as a future influence for other young guitarists.
