IIIrd Tyme Out (#324)
The seven-time IBMA Group of the Year brings classic bluegrass to the stage.
IIIrd Tyme Out is one of the most popular and well-respected bands in bluegrass music, having won the International Bluegrass Music Association award for Vocal Group of the Year every year from 1994 to 2000. The band is known as a spectacular ensemble made up of some notably strong individual musicians. Lead singer Russell Moore is a two-time winner of the IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year award (1994, 1997), while Wayne Benson was named the 2002 Mandolin Player of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America.
The IIIrd Tyme Out lineup for this Jubilee performance features Moore, Benson, Ray Deaton, Greg Luck, and Steve Dilling. Overall, the band has recorded more than half a dozen albums, including the much-lauded John and Mary and back-to-back live recordings from the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, KY: Live at the MAC and Back to the MAC.
With its blend of contemporary classics and new interpretations of seminal bluegrass tunes, Live at the MAC, wrote critic Jon Weisberger, represents a bold reply to those who claim that the makers of modern bluegrass have lost touch with the spirit and sound of yesterdays giants. Moving the listener is what its about, and IIIrd Tyme Out has the artistry and soul to do it.
This repeat visit to Jubilee was recorded in the summer of 2001 at IIIrd Tyme Outs own Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Morehead, KY.
