Altrusa International Lexington: Mighty Moms

The Mighty Mom Project is designed to select mothers who are the primary caregivers for disabled children of any age. The selected moms will receive pampering for the the weekend of Sept. 27 and 28, 2014. They will have several choices of services, fit for a queen, such as manicures, pedicures and massages or shopping and crafts. Lodging and meals are provided as well as each mom will receive a basket filled with personal items. Altrusa International, a 501 C tax-exempt organization, is seeking: applicants who fit the defined criteria by Monday, Aug. 4, 2014; and cash donations and personal service contributions for this project. Gala in the Garden

The Friends of the Arboretum is hosting the 10th annual Gala in the Garden at The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky. Features hors d'oeuvres, drinks and desserts, live entertainment and a silent auction to benefit The Arboretum Legacy Campaign for Phase 2 of the Dorotha Smith Oatts Visitor Center and the planned Woodland Shade Garden in the Home Demonstration Garden. Cost: $50 per person through August 25 ($60 thereafter); $35 for those under age 35.

Walk for Down Syndrome

Cost: $15 per person (includes T-shirt). The 1.25 mile walk in downtown Lexington will raise funds to support DSACK's mission and raise awareness for individuals with Down syndrome living in Central and Eastern Kentucky. This annual event featuring silent and live auctions, raffle, and family-friendly activities including face and hair painting, music, dancing, inflatables, and more.
