While everyone looks forward to spring, the warmer temperatures also bring the threat of severe weather: destructive winds, hail, lightning, floods, and tornadoes that can occur with little or no warning. But being informed about reliable emergency services and taking some simple preparedness measures can help you and your family greatly reduce the risk of death, injury, or economic loss because of severe weather. In the annual KET call-in program Severe Storms: Being Prepared, state weather and disaster preparedness experts outline steps you can take and answer specific questions from viewers.

Bill Goodman hosts the hour-long program. His guests for the 2008 edition:

  • Gen. Clay Bailey, director of Kentucky Emergency Management
  • Joe Sullivan, warning coordinating meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Louisville
  • Camille Crain, hazard mitigation officer, Kentucky Emergency Management
  • Bill Meck, chief meteorologist at WLEX-TV in Lexington

Severe Storms: Being Prepared, a production of KET in partnership with the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management and the Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee, was produced by Nick Helton.
