May 5/6: Program 1718—Horses are the focus of this Derby-themed program as Dave Shuffett visits Turfway Park in Florence and learns firsthand what it takes to operate a racetrack. We also learn about the old Bashford Manor Farm, one of Kentucky's top Thoroughbred horse farms until the horses were sold in 1922. We go on the beat with the Lexington Mounted Police and visit New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding in Bowling Green, a horseback riding program for kids with disabilities. Watch online.
May 12/13: Program 1719—We travel the back roads of Kentucky in search of the painted barns that encouraged us all to "See Rock City." We also learn about a historic Muhlenberg County house built for unrequited love, explore the Civil War Battle of Richmond, and visit Gelato Gilberto in Prospect. Watch online.
May 19/20: Program 1720—The community of Henderson pays homage to its famous former resident with bronze bird sculptures created from the drawings of John James Audubon. We also visit the Lyon County community of Eddyville, learn about the ancient sport of falconry, and meet artist Paul Busse and visit his Applied Imagination workshop in Campbell County. May 26/27: Program 1721—Dave Shuffett spends a relaxing day on a cattle farm in Hopkins County, practicing his fly-fishing cast and learning to weave baskets. In our historical markers segment, we learn about three Kenton County natives in the entertainment industry. We also visit Dee's Drive Inn in Lawrence County and stop by the town of Albany in Clinton County. Finally, in another installment of our series about Kentucky's original Carnegie libraries, we visit Covington's Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center.
