Inspired by Neil Chethik’s FatherLoss: How Sons of All Ages Come to Terms with the Deaths of Their Dads, this special edition of Kentucky Life explores the unique grief sons face when they lose their fathers.

Host Dave Shuffett makes a personal journey of discovery after the death of his father in 2007, sharing his struggles in the wake of the loss. Dave also interviews several other Kentucky men about the loss of their fathers, including Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Joel Pett; Lexington Family Magazine editor John Lynch; Ed Clement of Crittenden County, the son of a world-famous geologist; Kevin Skaggs of Franklin County, who was 10 when he lost his father in a hunting accident; and New York native and Emmy Award winner Frank Simkonis of Lexington.

Dave also speaks with Father Norman Fischer of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Lexington about the grieving process.
