A visit to the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site will provide students an opportunity to visit the site of a significant battle in the Civil War. As with visits to other sites, pre-visit activities play an important role in ensuring the trip be worthwhile and memorable for the students. Perryville Battlefield provides a unique opportunity for students to participate in “School of the Soldier,” a four-hour program to help students understand what it was like for the soldiers who served in 1862 at Perryville.

A visit to the Lincoln Homestead State Park will complete a study of the life of the Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln family in Kentucky. This site is where Thomas and Nancy were married. Each year a re-enactment of that event takes place at the park. The KET Kentucky Life segment Dearly Beloved documents the event in 2006, the 200th anniversary of the marriage. For the students of Cox’s Creek School, the segment is especially significant; Kevin Lanham, who plays Abraham Lincoln in the production, is the husband of their school’s principal.
