Appalachian Power is a virtual Appalachian heritage center, an eclectic online round-up of information on the region’s history and culture, including brief sketches of Gurney Norman and other writers.

A Moment In Time: ‘Spots of Time,’ Epiphanies, and Chronotopes in the Short Stories of Gurney Norman and David Huddle is an essay by Erin Murphy comparing moments of sudden realization by characters in Gurney’s story “Night Ride” and David Huddle’s story “Only the Little Bone.” It’s part of a collection of essays by students in an Appalachian literature course at Virginia Tech. The site also includes a biographical essay on Gurney by Rhonda Stricklett.

Dramatizations of three of the stories from Gurney’s collection Kinfolks (including “Night Ride”) make up The Wilgus Stories, a film distributed by the Independent Television Service. The accompanying web site includes a short profile of the author.

Gurney’s entry on the KYLIT site from Eastern Kentucky University is an essay by Anne Caudill on his writing style.
