Diane MacKenzie has been a teacher for 16 years and is chair of Atherton High School’s world language department. She was a Fulbright Scholar in 1988, has received the Superintendent’s Distinguished Service Award, and is a mentor and supervisor for new teachers. She also has taught Louisville police officers, who are required to take college-level Spanish classes in order to communicate more effectively with the city’s growing Hispanic population. She is a recipient of the Milken Educator Award, honoring classroom teachers who demonstrate outstanding teaching ability, accomplishments outside the classroom, and leadership qualities.
