Mitch McConnell served as county judge-executive in Jefferson County from 1978 until he was sworn in for his first term in the U.S. Senate in 1985. Re-elected three times since then, McConnell serves as senior member of the Appropriations, Agriculture and Rules Committees. Since this edition of One to One with Bill Goodman aired, McConnell was elected Republican leader in the 110th Congress by his party colleagues. McConnell is the 15th Republican leader and only the second Kentuckian to lead his party in the U.S. Senate.
