Jones retired in 2005 after 44 years as chairman of the board at Humana. A Louisville native, he was the second of six children. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1954 and seven years later co-founded the company that would become Humana.
Jones describes how Humana grew from a small group of nursing homes in 1961 into the multi-billion dollar company it is today. The business acquired its first hospital in 1968, and its name was changed to Humana Inc. in 1974. Humana began to offer insurance plans in 1984.
Jones also discusses what he believes is the secret to a successful Commonwealth: education.
