Mary Shelman, director of the Harvard Agribusiness Program, identifies the policies and players that are influencing and changing the vertical food chain, made up of farmers, suppliers, retailers, and consumers. A Kentucky native, Mary Shelman grew up in the agricultural industry, working with her father in both his farm-equipment dealership and his grain-farming operation. She received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kentucky and later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Shelman’s special research interest focuses on the forces of change shaping global agribusiness. At Harvard, Shelman coordinates the content and production of the annual Agribusiness Seminar. She is a member of the editorial board of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Review and serves as a board member of the International Foods and Agribusiness Management Association.
