The Colon Cancer Prevention Project was founded in 2004 with the mission to eliminate preventable colon cancer death by increasing screening rates in Kentucky.

Through screening techniques such as colonoscopy, doctors can detect colon cancer and pre-cancerous polyps. The removal of polyps prevents the development of colon cancer. Even if colon cancer has already developed, treating it before symptoms are present results in a greater than 90 percent treatment success rate, according to the CCPP.

The Colon Cancer Prevention Project was featured in a 2009 KET special, Catching a Killer: Preventing Colon Cancer in Kentucky.
