Dr. Mark Evers, Markey Cancer Center (#604)
Dr. Mark Evers, the director of the Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky since 2009, talks about his work, Kentucky's high rate of cancer and cancer mortality, and his goal to have the Markey Cancer Center designated a National Cancer Institute comprehensive cancer center.

The Markey Cancer Center was established in 1985 and serves over 1,800 new patients each year. One of Markey's leading areas of research is in gastrointestinal cancers, for which it received a national Specialized Program of Research Excellence grant. In addition, Markey has received national recognition for its ovarian cancer screening program.
Evers came to Kentucky from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. An internationally recognized gastrointestinal and endocrine surgeon, Evers is also a prolific researcher. A Tennessee native, he completed his residency training in general surgery at the University of Louisville in 1988.
