James Catterall, author of Doing Well and Doing Good by Doing Art: The Effects of Education in the Visual and Performing Arts on the Achievements and Values of Young Adults, discusses his research, which followed middle school students to age 26 and compared outcomes of students who were involved with the arts with those who weren't. He discusses academic success (doing well) as well as civic engagement (doing good).
Catterall, who chaired the National Technical Advisory Panel for Kentucky's state assessment between 1998 and 2008, also discusses how Kentucky schools are doing.
