Andy Barr, 39, the Republican nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in Kentucky's 6th Congressional District, is once again challenging Democratic incumbent Ben Chandler. Chandler won a very close 2010 election by 648 votes, 119,812 to 119,164.
Since the 2010 election and the 2010 Census, the boundaries of the 6th District have been redrawn. The western part of Jessamine County, including Wilmore, and all of Garrard, Mercer and Boyle counties were moved from Central Kentucky's 6th District to the 2nd District. The 6th District gained the remaining portion of Scott County; a southern strip of Harrison County; and all of Robertson, Nicholas, Fleming, Bath, Menifee and Wolfe counties.
Barr is a 1996 graduate of the University of Virginia and a 2001 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law. He served as deputy general counsel to former Gov. Ernie Fletcher.
