Republican Andy Barr discusses his successful strategy in the 2012 election to defeat Democrat Ben Chandler and his emphasis on the importance of the coal industry to the Kentucky economy. He also talks about his priorities for his term in Washington and how politicians can overcome gridlock and work together.
He discusses his desire to change parts of the health care reform law and his support for tax reform instead of tax increases. "If it means doing something that I think will hurt the economy, I'm going to oppose it. Because I think I was elected to hold the line on things that are going to exacerbate the national debt or policies that will harm economic growth and prevent economic recovery," he said. "So again, raising tax rates is something that I will oppose. Tax reform that makes our tax code simpler, that will generate economic growth, that will generate more revenue, I think is compromise worth having, worth achieving."
He also offers his opinion on the future of the Republican Party and the changing demographics of the country.
