The documentary Extreme by Design captures the experience of Stanford University students as they meet the challenge of creating affordable products to meet the basic needs of the world's poor using "design thinking," which promotes human-centered design concepts.

John Nash, founder of UK's Laboratory on Design Thinking in Education (dLab) and the former associate director for evaluation at the Stanford Center for Innovations, explains how his UK students help to implement "design thinking" concepts in Kentucky schools. He teaches courses on school reform, design thinking, and research methods.

Ralph King, an independent filmmaker and founder of Hawkview Pictures, was previously a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, where he was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.

Note: Extreme by Design airs Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 10/9 pm on KET.
