Diane Ravitch, a historian of education, an educational policy analyst, and a research professor at New York University, discusses education and her criticism of the Common Core academic standards. She is the winner of this year's University of Louisville Grawmeyer Award in Education.

Diane Ravitch was assistant secretary of education under President George H.W. Bush from 1991-93. From 1997 to 2004, she was a member of the National Assessment Governing Board, which oversees the federal testing program. Formerly a proponent of charter schools, she is now an opponent. Her latest book is Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools.
