Kentucky Life serves up a smorgasbord of stories when a look at rural health care is presented alongside a little girl's dream house, a hummingbird-lover's fantasy and the beauty of Carter Caves State Park. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs on KET at 8:30/7:30 p.m. CT Saturday, Jan. 29.
First, the program shows how the vision of one man, Dr. Loman Trover, became a reality. He saw the challenge of providing health care to rural Western Kentucky and met it by creating what has been called "Kentucky's Mayo Clinic" in Madisonville. Kentucky Life pauses to reflect with Dr. Trover on how health care has changed over the years, while also glimpsing the personal life of a true Kentucky visionary.
Next, viewers travel to Paintsville, where indulgent grandparents have constructed a playhouse that most homeowners would envy. Rosa Lee Pack explains how she and her husband built the cottage and set about furnishing it with all the amenities of a real home.
Kentucky Life then visits Jeanine Brady of St. Joe, who has been attracting hummingbirds to her back yard for many years.
Finally, viewers can drink in yet another of Kentucky's beautiful outdoor wonderlands in a visit to Carter Caves State Park. Located in Olive Hill, it is home to more than 20 caverns, some explored and some not yet charted. This segment also looks at the park's many other charms.
Kentucky Life is produced and directed by Joy Flynn. Series writer is Ellen Ballard. Segment producers for this program are Joy Flynn, Ernie Martin and Gale Worth. Craig Cornwell is executive producer. The program is closed-captioned for the deaf and heard-of-hearing.
