"March Madness" may be a few weeks away yet, but basketball fans can catch all the excitement of high school basketball championships in February on KET. The Kentucky All-'A' Classic Boys' Basketball Championship airs Wednesday, Feb. 2, and The Kentucky All-'A' Classic Girls' Basketball Championship airs the following week, Wednesday, Feb. 9. The programs, featuring the final game of each tournament, air at 11:30/10:30 p.m. CT.
Of the approximately 124 Class 'A' high schools (those with enrollments of less than 425 students) that are members of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, 122 boys teams and 117 girls teams participated in this year's tournaments. The championship tournament will be held at Eastern Kentucky University's McBrayer Arena.
The All 'A' Classic, Inc. sponsors activities in athletics, academics, citizenship and fellowship for its member high schools. Additionally, the corporation provided $10,000 in award and scholarship money for the statewide Academic Competition held earlier this year and will award $40,000 to Class 'A' seniors for use at a Kentucky post-secondary school of their choice.
