The African-American experience is not a single story, but many stories woven together. In honor of Black History Month, KET2 presents four very different pictures of African-American life.
, airing Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 10/9 p.m. CT, examines the ideals and the reality of one of the few communities in the U.S. where black and white families have lived side by side for nearly 40 years.
Tales from the Land of Gullah, airing Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 10/9 p.m. CT, offers a spirit-lifting, soul-stirring experience of the birth of African-American heritage on the sea islands of South Carolina. The program takes a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of a transplanted people determined to preserve their roots.
In 1920 there were nearly one million black farmers in America; in 1999 there were fewer than 18,000. Homecoming . . . Sometimes I Am Haunted by Memories of Red Dirt and Clay, chronicles African-American land loss and the lives of black farmers. This rare and poignant film airs Thursday, Feb. 10 at 9/8 p.m. CT.
